Welcome to our introduction to iMovie in the classroom. Here you will find resources for ideas, tools, apps, examples of videos created and how to create the iMovie you want. We're not here to sell iMovie to you. We're here to sell the idea of using movies created by you or your students in your classroom for further understanding and exposure to technology with educational use.
Why iMovie? We find that iMovie is a simple program where not only can educators and adults use it with ease but our students can use it as well with great ease. With a few pointers and great ideas you and your students can begin creating memorable videos for trips, lessons, and gifts! Thinking of creating a flipped classroom? Well, iMovie can help you do a flipped classroom. Many programs only allow you to record a video from 2-5 minutes and you need to create several of these. With iMovie you can create a movie as long or as short as you want. Sounds like a lot of work? Considering all the preparation you do on a daily basis for your lessons, an iMovie can be created within 5-10 minutes as long as you have everything you need. An extra 5-10 minutes can save you hours in the long run. Once you create your iMovie you don't have to make it again and you can re-use the movie for future lessons. Something changed in your curriculum? All you need to do is adjust your video to meet your needs without re-doing it all. Cutting and pasting in iMovie is simple and saves loads of time when you need something to present in class. Is it just a movie?
With iMovie you can create a movie or a trailer! Trailer's are great for stories and presentations. Trailers are a great way to introduce field trips or even an end of the year overview of your class. Can anyone use iMovie? Yes, anyone can use iMovie as long as they have an iOs device that supports it. If your students do not have their own apple devices or have access to devices you can have them work on their movies in class. Group projects work great with iMovie. Working in groups prevents one student feeling overwhelmed and allows each student to work on one section of the project. Any age can learn how to use iMovie as long as they want to learn. We suggest using iMovie with iPads or iPhones with younger children since it is much easier to navigate and structure rather than on the Mac. CREATIVITY IS KEY! |
